World Cup Song Writer Takes Vow-of-silence

May 13, 2010

The World Cup kick-off is just 30 days away now and golly things are getting tense. Will England finally bring the Cup back to the Land of Football? Anthony (“Mad Ant”) Donnelly, co-writer of our song for England, “Chant Like an English Fan” is taking no chances.

In honour of the game and in support of the England team, he’s taken a vow of silence – which started at midnight last night. Spokesperson for Mr Donnelly,¬†Iva Loudvoice, read the following¬†statement on his behalf:

“Thank you all for the wonderful support of our song for England, “Chant Like an English Fan”, you’ve all been wonderful. Every four years the world’s greatest football teams compete for the most coveted prize of all: The World Cup.

“This year is no exception, and England looks in tip-top form to do us all proud. In honour of our national team, I have sworn to take a vow-of-silence until England wins this year. I ask for your continued support and reach out to the girlfriends and wives of all the humble England supporters around the world and beg you to join me in my vow-of-silence so we can all finally enjoy some uninterupted football this time round!”

Well, there you have it… hopefully silence will reign in your household, so you can watch some quality football this year. Failing that, we find that masking tape works wonders too (especially, if applied during sleep!)

Thank you all so much for the continued AWESOME support of our corkin’ toon: Keep the “Chant” alive… and Chant Like an English Fan for the England squad this year!

St. Patrick’s Day Practice for World Cup 2010

March 17, 2010

It’s March 17th – Saint Patrick’s Day – probably the ‘greenest’ day of the year (especially in America!), so green in fact they should use it to bulldoze over the Earth Day scam! Instead, though, we get to enjoy green Guiness and Irish madness for 24 hours.

The “Irish”-Americans go nuts today, with some of the biggest St. Paddy’s Day parades in New York city, Boston, and Chicago. Perhaps less well-known is the fact that it’s also the first official dress rehearsal for England supporters to get their “Chant” on and lubricate their best terrace voices.

Since Ireland didn’t qualify for the World Cup this year, let’s not hold that against them, and show the true English spirit and raise some glasses to our fellow island neighbours and get some serious drinking practice in.

If you feel like partying it up with a quick footie chant or two, remember to give “Chant Like an English Fan” a quick play, so you have something to sing and dance to, and get used to the words. It’s even been suggested, that if you get drunk enough, you might want to start singing:

“Ay-oh whey-oh, ay-oh whey-oh

“Chant like a leprechaun…!”

Fan Mail: Chant Ideas…

February 12, 2010

Thanks for all the support for our “unofficial” World Cup 2010 England song. It’s still months away, but we’re excited at the attention our catchy (albeit corny) little Chant is getting.

We thought this was a great idea from a fan who emailed us, we hope it catches on…

Hi Laddz,

I love the song and I’ll be sure to chant it for the World Cup, but in the meantime I hope you don’t mind me changing it a little and chanting it from the stands. You could write lyrics for all the UK clubs! I just shout out:

“Chant like a Vil-la fan… Come an’ score a goal, if ya fink ya fast enough…!”

Mike

Thanks for that idea, Mike. In fact that’s a great thing about our track – you can adapt it to almost any team you support prior to the World Cup. We’d love to hear from any other fans that have started to shout it out at their local games, feel free to change it. Richard prefers:

“Chant like a Man U fan…”

2010 Olympics…

February 9, 2010

Talk about something to put a whopping great big spanner in the works of a beautiful year – the bloody Olympics!

Finally a world cup year comes around and lo and behold… an outdated Greek tradition comes along to spoil things.

Let’s see what you think…

And please remember to keep following us @theladdz on twitter and we need more friends on http://myspace.com/theladdz

Thanks for your continued support!
